Windows Phone 10 Also Confirmed, Arrives Next Year
The surprising new naming scheme carries over to Microsoft’s mobile OS too, as the company has confirmed that Windows Phone 10 is the next version of Windows Phone.
No other specifics have bene provided, though.
Only at a later time, says Microsoft.
This does blow off the rumors that Redmond was keen on removing the Phone branding from Windows Phone, and instead just call the mobile operating system simply as Windows. Plenty of time to change that, though, so you never know.
A lot can happen between now and final release.
Which, the software titan has confirmed is on track for rollout next year.
Although today’s event was all about Windows 10 for PCs and tablets, Joe Belfiore did talk a bit about Windows Phone 10, calling it a natural step forward for the mobile platform. He also said that it would come without a desktop.
Hinting at the upcoming merger of Windows Phone and Windows RT, surely.
The desktop would therefore disappear from this flavor of Windows 10, while Microsoft will make touch the key focus, allowing users the ability to perform all their tasks, productivity and entertainment, using touch based input.
What’s interesting is when the test version of Windows Phone 10 arrives.
Probably January or February next year?
What do you think?
